BF Heroes Update Gives Advantage to Microtransacting Users

By Timewarp | December 2, 2009

BF Heroes Update Gives Advantage to Microtransacting Users…..It appears a storm is brewing among Battlefield Heroes players due to a recent update that according to some gives an unfair advantage.

It’s difficult to explain the current controversy surrounding Battlefield Heroes without talking a whole lot of inside baseball, so we’ll keep it simple. Players of the game are up in arms due to a recent update to the title’s in-game store. Though EA and DICE had worked up a balance between the game’s two forms of currency — Valor Points, which you unlock from playing, and Battlefunds, which you purchase with real-life money — this patch heavily depreciates the value of the former while making the latter a near necessity for those who wish to stay competitive in the game.

Items have had their Valor Point costs increased across the board — what’s more, some of these items can no longer be permanently purchased with Valor Points, but can only be taken on a one or three-day test drive. However, these same items have had their Battlefund costs reduced, and allow purchasers to keep them indefinitely.

If the items being purchased were merely cosmetic, we wouldn’t think twice about this shift in fungible value — however, the torch-wielding mob now moving through the Battlefield Heroes forums seem to think that the shooter’s developer has forsaken the more frugal members of its community, giving the wealthy playboys among them an unfair advantage.

Battlefield v1.50 Questions Answered

By Timewarp | August 29, 2009

DICE Producer, Barrie Tingle has been fielding questions in the EA UK forums about the upcoming Battlefield 2 v1.50 patch. Some informaton on how modding will affect the patch is also listed.

I see release dates for UK/Europe. What about NA?
North America will be Tuesday 1st September also but adjusted for time zone differences. So at around 9am Pacific.

Great news that the booster packs will be free. But why there won’t be a full 1.5 patch, only incremental as you say 1.41 will be needed? First 540 MB 1.41 and then over 2 Gb 1.5. A full version would be a lot handier.
A full installer wasn’t made to get Battlefield 2 v1.0 up to v1.50 due to a change in how updates were made between DICE Canada and DICE Sweden. We could have made one large update but it would have been almost the same size as the game install itself. To solve compatibility issues it was decided to have players update to version 1.41 (or have Battlefield 2 Complete Collection installed from EADM) before running Update v1.50.

if something go wrong. u gonna fix it? +is final working smoother then beta maybe?
Yes and yes

Baza, its up to the ranked server providers to update their servers, do you expect there will be a drop in available 1.41 servers before 1.50 will be made public? If so, for how long do you expect it to last?
Battlefield 2 v1.41 servers will run up to and including Tuesday when the update launches. You may see a drop in server numbers for a couple of hours before the client is released as they switch over server versions. I don’t see a big drop, if any, before that time though.

Will the no DVD patch be delivered as an extra addon or will we never see this?
It is part of Update 1.50. There is no extra patch or file needed.

Will the hitreg will be really improved or for that year not many time was spent regarding this issue ?
All I will say is that Hit reg has been improved. We have a lot more happening than Counter Strike (64 players and vehicles for a start ) so it might not be pin point but its it better than it was.

Have you removed the notorious registration of the boosters to one account? Is it now just installing patch 1.5 and then play them?
Install the patch and any account that can play Battlefield 2 can play the Booster Pack maps. No need to link your BF2 soldier to EA.

Battlefield 2 v1.50 and Modding
Since Battlefield 2 v1.50 will come with the booster packs we have also updated our rules on mods.I have taken our existing rules from the old Battlefield.com page and updated to reflect the Euro Force and Armored Fury inclusion in the Update.

    PBBans Status

    By Timewarp | August 21, 2009

Many Battlefield servers and other Punkbuster enabled games rely on a service called PBBans, which maintains a large global ban list of cheaters on top of regular Punkbuster protection. Recently it was announced PBBans would be shutting down, but it looks like they have decided against it. The main site is still down, although they are in the process of rebuilding it.

If you are a server owner who streams to PBBans, information about a new UCON is below.

Over the last month PBBans has been hit with a number of DDoS attacks and we have been able to overcome them. On Aug 18, 2009 a massive DDoS attack hit our web server and could not be prevented with the counter-measures we previously employed. Our host will not do anything to block the attacks and even suggested that we turn our servers off.

After this occurred we decided to close our doors. There are many reasons behind this such as a higher cost for hosting, the lack of a new host that can provide the protection we require and finally the toll PBBans has played on our real lives.

After thinking about it overnight and the overwhelming messages from supporters who pleaded us not to close, we have decided to continue. We have found a new host that will provide the protection we require however it comes at a higher cost. Also the cost of shipping our servers is not a small one.

We need your help to keep us to keep PBBans online. Please donate using the button below.

We thank all our supporters for sticking with us and provided some much needed motivation needed to keep PBBans alive.

    Aug 19, 2009
Hosting has been secured and the process of moving the servers now begins.

Moving also requires all game servers be updated to use a new UCON profile. The new UCON profile will be posted here when we get the IP.

    Battlefield Heros update in route

    By Timewarp | August 20, 2009

    bfh

    Hello Heroes!

In the next few days we will be deploying a new technical update. This update brings fixes for some of the most common problems:

    - We know joining a friend’s game in Heroes can be somewhat tricky. We’ve been working on a new feature to help improve this for you. Now, when you attempt to join a friend who’s game is full, you will be added to a queue to join automatically when a space comes up.

    - We hate cheaters and hackers as much as you do. With this update we’ve implemented some new things to make their life MUCH harder.

    - Quite a few of you have been experiencing “Error 15”. For the vast majority of the unlucky this should have now gone away.

While we’ve been working on this technical update, we’ve also been hard at work on a whole new content update. More on what you will find in that very soon!

Here’s the update list in full:

    Temp Forum is UP

    By Timewarp | August 4, 2009

Hello everyone, if you haven’t noticed the forum has been down due to technical issues. I have been getting the “Language file en/common.php couldn’t be opened.” error and I am at a loss how to fix it. I will continue to work the issue hopefully I can get it fixed. If worse comes to worse I may have to just plain start new. If anyone has any thoughts on how to fix it or suggestions I am all ears.

In the mean time I have installed a temp forum (notice the navigation bar above) . This forum was a first run and the original forum for OVR25.com from back early last year. I will continue to work on restoring our phpbb forum but until that happens please feel free to drop your thoughts in our “temp-forum”, thanks!

    Sir. Community - BF2: Takeshi’s Castle

    By Timewarp | August 2, 2009

The Sir. Community recently released a new Battlefield 2 video based on a Japanese TV show called “Takeshi’s Castle” (or MXC in the US).

Today, we are proud to present another Battlefield 2 film from the mind of Sir. XaliaS. Many of you are undoubtedly familiar with the Japanese TV show “Takeshi’s Castle,” perhaps best known for the U.S. parody dubbed MXC. Across the pond in the United Kingdom (XaliaS’s homeland), the show is hosted by Craig Charles. With the help of the Sandbox mod, XaliaS has recreated an episode of the show in Battlefield 2 for your amusement.

We hope you’re having a great summer! As you can see, here at the Sir. Community we’ve remained loyal to Battlefield 2 with our modding projects like Sandbox and films from Sir. XaliaS. However, with the PC releases of Battlefield 1943 and Bad Company 2 later this year, we hope to branch out and bring you some new experiences in the Battlefield series. As always, stay tuned!

    Sir. Community
